Crisis Shelters

In partnership with the Direction Déparementale des Affaires Sanitaire et Sociale de Seine Saint Denis, the Comité d’Aide Médicale has put in place a crisis shelter with the capacity to lodge 80 people. The shelter would temporarily house (one month maximum) a massive influx of people during a catastrophe (building fire, flooding etc...) until a permanent solution is found.

Made up of easily transportable components, the crisis shelter can be installed in adapted sites (gymnasium, dance halls etc...) designated by the Prefect.

The emergency shelter was used twice in January 2003, both due to fires. The first time, the Comité d’Aide Médicale distributed around 200 blankets to people staying in their residential buildings. The second fire happened in the kitchen of the Sonacotra shelter in Saint Denis. Working alongside other local services like les Bains Douches, les Resto du Cœur et Coup de Main 93, the organization took care of 150 people in a location made available by the mayor.

In 2006, following the conflict in Lebanon, the DDASS of Seine Saint Denis, commissioned us to organize an emergency shelter, near the Charles de Gaulle airport. The location of the site chosen by the prefecture did not fall within our boundaries, so it ended up being managed instead by public authorities.
